Severe: In general, these dogs have a high fever (above 104 degrees Fahrenheit) and develop symptoms very quickly. Pneumonia (pneumonia), especially hemorrhagic pneumonia (bleeding), can occur. The flu virus affects the capillaries in the lungs, so dogs may cough up blood and breathe hard if blood enters the alveoli. Patients may develop bacterial pneumonia, which occurs in more complex conditions.
